Cataphoresis (E-coat/KTL) can be used as a standalone finish in certain low, medium or high exposure environments, particularly indoors or where aesthetics is not critical.
It offers very good corrosion protection and excellent adhesion, but its UV resistance is limited. For outdoor applications or those subject to aesthetic ageing, E-coat is mainly used as a primer before liquid or powder paint, to ensure durability and long-term performance.

Before applying cataphoresis, appropriate pre-treatment is essential to ensure adhesion and anti-corrosion performance.

Phosphating is commonly used for steel parts, while specific conversion or passivation treatments are applied to aluminium. The pre-treatment sequence is determined based on the material, the geometry of the parts and the durability requirements.
